Computing equips pupils with the knowledge and skills to unlock the incredible potential of electronic devices. Computers and computer systems are a fundamental part of modern life which is why a high-quality computing education is essential to equip pupils to become active participants in a digital world.

At Kingsbridge Primary School, the intent of Computing is to deliver a high-quality curriculum which is equitable and equal and sees all children make progress regardless of their starting points and level of access to digital devices outside of school.

Computing lessons are engaging, varied, and conducive to problem solving and creative thinking. These lessons enable pupils to create programs, digital systems and a range of different content through the teaching of computer science. Furthermore, pupils become digitally literate, enabling them to express themselves through information and communication technology at a level suitable for their current lives and their future aspirations.

Our curriculum demonstrates the significance of information technology in every day life and aims to fuel pupils’ aspirations for what digital devices can be used for.

The aims of Computing, as outlined in the National Curriculum are to ensure that all pupils:

• Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
• Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
• Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
• Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
