At Kingsbridge Primary School, the intent of our physical education curriculum is to deliver a high-quality curriculum which ignites a passion for movement, fosters healthy habits from an early age and inspires all children to develop lifelong participation in sport and physical activity regardless of their starting points.
Our progressive curriculum supports all children to develop the physical literary, social, emotional and cognitive skills to achieve in physical education, physical activity, sport and life. Throughout the curriculum, the children are learning to move and moving to learn. They continuously build upon and embed their fundamental movement skills and progress to develop their transferable skills in KS2. The aim of which is to perform with competence and confidence, in a board range of physical activities and sports by the end of their journey in Primary PE. Through physical education, children learn personal, cognitive, social and emotional skills which can be transferred and applied across the wider primary curriculum. We strive to develop life-long physically literate learners by instilling the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to ensure each child values and engages in physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices; enabling them to mature into well-rounded individuals.
The aims of Physical Education, as outlined in the National Curriculum are to ensure that all pupils:
- Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time
- Engage in competitive sports and activities
- Lead healthy, active lives.
