Design and Technology

Design Technology Intent
Design Technology is an exciting collaboration of the creative and practical. At Kingsbridge Primary School, we encourage creativity and imagination to design products and solve problems within a variety of contexts. Taking into consideration their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Whilst gaining a wide range of subject knowledge, Design Technology links our work with other disciplines, including maths, science, computing and art. Through evaluation and reflection of their own work, the work of others and past technology, children learn to become innovators and take risks. We want Design and Technology to grow inquiring minds and give opportunities which will challenge our children. Then tooled with the confidence to try new things and learning that both success and failure are invaluable life lessons.
The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
- Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
- Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
- Understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
